Job Summary:
The Strategy and Transformation team at Princess Margaret Cancer Centre is looking for a Summer Student. The Strategy and Transformation team acts as a point of contact for the Princess Margaret and liaises with the Princess Margaret programs and departments, the Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation (PMCF), UHN programs and external stakeholders. This team is uniquely positioned to take a holistic view of the organization and is responsible for spearheading transformation, furthering strategic priorities and partnerships, and fostering accountability and stewardship for Princess Margaret Cancer Centre.

The Summer Student will report to the Manager, Strategy and Transformation, and will be responsible for the coordination of projects, events or assignments that may run simultaneously with varying degrees of complexity.

Responsibilities may include:

  • Contribute/participate in the implementation of projects/initiatives that support the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre: Always Moving Forward strategic priorities
  • Synthesize information, interpret and use critical thinking skills to draw conclusions that inform recommendations for decision-making
  • Assist with producing clear and concise briefing notes, presentations, reports, materials and other documents to support communication of work to different levels of stakeholders, including senior management and external partners
  • Manage the creation and maintenance of project tasks, budgets and timelines
  • Liaise with other programs and departments to ensure efficient coordination and completion of projects
  • Arrange meetings, prepare, and distribute background information and agendas, book and set up rooms, take and transcribe minutes in a timely manner, and follow-up as necessary.
  • Perform cross-functional and/or other duties consistent with the job classification, as assigned or requested
  • Plan, coordinate, and oversee all event logistics under general direction of the Manager, Strategy and Transformation.
  • Planning tasks including, but not limited to, creating a project plan, organizing Planning Committee meetings, sending invitations, managing registrations, booking venues and speakers, arranging catering, transportation, equipment and on site event support., in an effective and efficient manner.

Qualifications

  • Pursuing an Undergraduate or Master's Degree in health or health sciences-related field preferred
  • Amenable to a hybrid working model (a minimum of 3 days per week on-site at the downtown Toronto office).
  • Highly proficient in using the Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, Outlook, SharePoint)
  • Excellent organization and time management skills
  • Works well under pressure without sacrificing quality, is a self-starter, detail-oriented, dependable, a problem solver, and is motivated to learn and improve
  • Excellent critical thinking skills; ability to evaluate situations and make appropriate judgement calls
  • Possess excellent interpersonal skills for liaising with stakeholders, senior leadership, and representatives from partner organizations.
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills to draft clear, concise correspondence, as well as to respond to enquiries with tact, confidentiality, and discretion
  • Able to adapt to a fast-paced environment with multiple competing priorities and deadlines
  • Must be able to work both independently and within a team environment
