Capital Projects within Infrastructure Planning & Projects is looking for one summer student to support the Manager and Project Managers within the department in delivering renewal and renovation projects throughout the institution. The junior project coordinator(s) will support projects across NAIT campuses and will share accountability for aspects associated with the successful execution and delivery of our projects safely, within budget, on time, and to the highest quality standards.
Key Responsibilities:
Support the planning, design, and or delivery of multiple ongoing and concurrent projects leveraging time management to ensure the successful delivery of project outcomes
Assist in defining the project goals, objectives, and planned deliverables to fulfill the requirements of the stakeholders and project clients
Supporting and assisting the Project Managers in their day-to-day project management responsibilities
Assisting in the preparation of cost estimates and project schedules
Preparing and issuing accurate supporting project documentation as required, including change orders, work orders, purchase orders, etc., and ensuring necessary documentation is received from other parties (Internal/external)
Employ project management best practices, acumen, and methods to support project delivery
Respond and/or support inquiries to project-related matters
Assist in the preparation and administration of project-related solicitations and procurements
Coordinate and attend meetings with contractors, consultants, or stakeholders and produce required documentation
Other duties as needed
Skills & Abilities:
Strong project coordination skills including an understanding of project management principles, methods, and techniques
Demonstrated ability to problem solve, assess situations, think critically, and apply sound judgment in providing informed choices
A desire to assist others, along with superior customer service orientation
Knowledge of change management and project management principles
Self-motivated with the ability to work independently as well as within a broader team
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to engage stakeholders by tailoring the messaging according to the type of audience
Exceptional organizational and time management skills with the ability to adapt to change and competing priorities
General understanding of construction-related terminology, drawings, and documents
Ability to work with highly detailed information and with large quantities of data
Familiar with Auto-CAD and Microsoft 365 Suite of products and applications
Ability to multi-task between competing interests of multiple projects and varying project schedules
Qualifications:
Completion of Grade twelve, plus currently enrolled for studies at a recognized post-secondary institution or recently graduated from an accredited program at a post-secondary institution
1 - 2 years related experience working in project environments for architecture, planning, construction, small-scale building projects is an asset
Current students enrolled in or completing a Bachelor of Technology in Construction Management or a diploma in Construction Engineering Technology are encouraged to apply. Equivalencies from Architecture, Mechanical, Electrical, or Civil programs are also welcome to apply
Alternative programs supplemented with experience may be considered
Preference may be given to current NAIT students
Equivalencies may be considered
Applicants with education credentials earned outside of Canada should have their credentials evaluated by World Education Services or the International Qualifications Assessment Service (IQAS).
Remuneration: $27.13 per hour, plus 12% in lieu of statutory holidays and vacation pay (Classification - Technologist II)
This position is covered by the Alberta Union of Provincial Employees (AUPE) Collective Agreement.
